Default 5 stars SkilSaw 1641 heavy duty worth getting fixed ??

Hi i am a newb to the site and i have a question my father passed down to me a skilsaw 1641 type s heavy duty chain saw. It had some issues trying to get it started but after spraying a bit of starter fluid into the carb it fired up. It seems to run ok and stayed running by itself even in the cold and not being ran in a good 5-6years. But when i gave it gas it would break up. Kind of like on/off on/off if that makes any sense-it wasnt breaking up bad. But my main question is should i keep it and have it serviced (is it worth spending the money on having it serviced?) or should i put the money toward a new saw? Thanx for any help

also does anyone know how old this saw is.

I think it depends on how your father used it. If he was the type that carefully serviced his tools regularly and if parts are available, then maybe. If you want to keep it because it was your Dad's, then maybe.
I don't necessarily believe that older saws are generally better than new saws. Some older top of the line saws that have been well maintained are worth keeping. It sounds like your saw may be a bit gummed up and needs a good cleaning and some fine tuning.
