Default Which manufacturer keeps parts the longest after product

    Hi all,
I am presently repairing my loyal Makita HP2010N which I bought in 1987 (22 years ago!) and I was rather impressed to find Makita still offering all spare parts.

I have other Makita products, but also Bosch and one or two different things.
When it comes to replacing this kit, I would like to include spare parts availability as a quality indicator (mind, you see I don't replace too often if the tools are good enough to last).
Which manufacturers are best, and who to avoid in this respect?
    Your thoughts please.

Ive always been a makita fan myself, They make one hell of an angle grinder! I used to cut 3cm granite on a regular basis with mine!

    Default keeps parts

    Hey guys,
Typically all the major brands will keep parts available for several years..however, many tool lines consistently upgrade and design ' new and improved' tools and parts and there can be many changes on your specific tool over time..that's way they have type 1 thru type 7 and so on..ugh
If you stay with the major brands of power tools, you should be able to repair for many years to come.. [after about 10 to 20 years some parts do become obsolete]
if I was going to avoid any brands it would be sears craftsman or any inexpensive tools made in China..
    just my two cents..

    Thumbs up Good question!

A young fellow just getting into the trades asked me recently which brand of power tools he should invest a sizable chunk of money into and have last for many years.Twenty or twenty five years ago it would have been an easy answer,Milwaukee, Rockwell,B&D,Skil etc.I had given him 2 B&D heavy duty drills that had lasted me twenty six years, and within a few years each needed the trigger switch replaced. No luck, they are not made or stocked anymore.OK after that amount of time they earned their rest. I have a 1/2" Delta 18v drill that is circa 2001 the batteries and the trigger switch are no longer available, and yes the battery cells can be purchased and replaced by the owner (or sent out for rebuilding) from third party vendors, but here is a perfectly good machine that is now useless due to a few bucks part.
So the short of it is,What is the answer? Anyone out there with some insider knowledge about who owns what line of tools and will they be phased out when could clear up a lot of confusion for folks who are looking for tools that will be around for a reasonable amount of time or has the toss away culture come to power tools of any make? And, while on the subject. Do the manufacturers still put out calenders? Milwaukee used to have some with some beautiful beings sporting their products!
