    Default jointer rebuild

I am rebuilding a Powermatic jointer and would appreciate recommendations for what to use to clean the parts as I disassemble them.

    Hi klaw,

Acetone makes a great degreaser for all of the metal parts. Keep in mind that it will also remove paint. Carburetor cleaner works well for the smaller metal parts and is available in a spray can so it is easier to control. Especially in those cases where you may need to clean a smaller parts with small openings in it. Remember to apply a thin coat of paste wax to any cast iron surfaces after you clean then to prevent rust. For any plastic parts your best bet is hot water and dish soap.

    Good luck with your rebuild!
