Hello, I'm looking for the complete blade guard assembly for the Makita Miter Saw model 242 purchased new in 1987. Thanks for any help you can give me!

Hi KaCe! I've looked around through my books and I can't find any info on the Makita 242 miter saw. Usually their miter saws start with 'LS.' A common model would be an LS1030. Makita also made some red tools that started with an M, but they're pretty rare. Are there any other identifying numbers on the tool?

    Default Makita 242

Hi Mike, Thanks for the rapid reply.

I've rechecked through the INSTRUCTION MANUAL and on the name plate on the saw. The MODEL # is actually M242. The saw is red. I can't recall where I bought the saw but I wouldn't have removed the SAFETY COVER. That is the actual name of the part that I'm looking for.

This one is a real challenge because the saw is quite old (1987) and an apparent odd size (8 1/4") but it runs like brand new.

I have a buyer for the saw and he's asked about the safety cover.

    Thanks again for your help!!

I hunted around and managed to find a parts diagram for your M242 saw. The safety cover is Makita part #414036-7, but unfortunately Makita has discontinued the part. It's not available any longer. Sorry if this makes you unable to sell the saw. Power tool manufacturers only support their tools for so long and this one is just a little too old.

    Hi Mike,

Hope you still have that parts diagram around. Looking for the part number for the fence. I think that is what you call the bolted on (not any more) metal piece that you rest the wood against when cutting. Thanks in advance for your response.
