    Default Makita router

Have a Makita model 3600BR plunge router, probably 20 years old. That model number is not recognized by your system, but it does look a lot like the current 3612 and 3612C, at least for the compression spring I need. Any advice?

I was able to get a parts diagram for your 3600BR. It's pretty hard to read, sorry. Some of the part numbers have probably changed so let me know which spring you're looking for and I can link to the current part number. Here's the diagram:

The part I need is the compression spring, #56 on the diagram you sent, part #231143-9. I guess the question is, is that part the same as part #231329-5 in the newer but similar looking model 3612?

I've checked with Makita and the #231143-9 spring was replaced the #233053-6 spring, and both have been discontinued. Unfortunately Makita cannot provide either part. You can always try to find a similar screw at a hardware store or repair shop. I don't have any way of checking to see whether the springs from the 3612 routers are close, but I wouldn't bet on it since they use a different part number. Sorry I couldn't find a good answer for you.

Thanks again, Mike. I think I'll try the spring for the 3612 to see if it works. Since I have lost the original spring, it at least will give me a better idea what to look for. You'd think that if a major manufacturer discontinued a part, they at least would be able to provide specs.

No problem. Hopefully that spring works for you. If it does, let us know and we'll make a note of it here.
