My 5 year old compressor just stopped working. Won't turn on yet there is power to the motor. No hum, noise of any kind, just plain dead. Would it be logical to sort this out by replacing the capacitors or is there a good chance that the motor is dead? Worked fine the last time I used it, no sign that it was ready to die.

Hi Richiezee,
I would suspect either the capacitors or the start switch within the motor. Your best bet is to take the motor into a motor shop. They can diagnose the problem and repair it. The parts to make the repair are not available from Porter Cable as they purchased the motor from a third party when they built the compressor. A motor shop will be able to get the parts. Let us know how it works out. -UtahAV -Mark |
