Default 5 stars Delta mod.36-075 miter saw

I have a Delta model 36-075 miter saw and the arbor and blade just spin on the shaft. I removed the arbor housing with the worm gear and the gear turns on the shaft. Does anyone know if the entire arbor unit with the gear needs replaced and if so is it worth fixing; saw is 11 years old.

I think there's a key way in the shaft. That keeps the gear form spinning. The key could be sheared in haft. Allowing the gear to spin freely.

    Thanks Dale,

I'll tear it down again and check.

    Default Delta 36-075

I think I have the same problem. Delta 36-075 blade first continued to spin after release of the switch trigger (i.e. electric blade brake stopped working). Then blade started to lose torque, now motor operates full speed, however blade hardly spins. I have not had chance to disassemble yet. Did you find source of the problem? Do you know what part needs to be replaced?

    Default Jackshaft assembly

After dis-assembly, it seems the key (if there originally) on the jackshaft assembly is no longer fixed. It must have sheared off. It is internal to the component, I cannot see it, but the blade shaft side of the device spins independently of the arbor gear side. I assume a functioning jackshaft assembly should transfer the torque. Is this assumption of the jackshaft assembly correct?

Yes. looks like they sell the jack shaft as an assembly.

    Default Delta 36-075

Thanks to all. I had to buy another saw to finish a job, but will order the jackshaft and repair this one also. Keep one for rough stuff and one for finish work, it's been a good saw for 11 years for weekend worrior stuff. My symtoms were exactly as David described.

    Thanks David and Dale.
