Garage sale Makita 6011D
I just purchased a Makita 6011D at a garage sale that would 'slip' like it was on the lowest setting and also would not change speed. Thanks to your forum I was able to remove the chuck and found the shifter was broken. I temporarily fixed it and everything else appears to work. My first question is - is there anything else I should check and/or repair while I have it opened up? My second question is what is the best method for storing the batteries that will enhance their life and ideally have some level of charge for a quick job - keep them on the charger all of the time? or charge just when you need it? or?????
Thanks!

I'm glad we were able to help you with your repair!
There's not a lot of maintenance to do inside the drill since the motor is sealed. I would probably re-lube the gears with a thick grease (something sticky). As for the batteries, those Ni-Cd batteries always last longer when they're being used. If you do have to store the batteries, keep them out of the cold and fully charge them before they sit. Also, just as a rule of thumb, avoid discharging those batteries all the way. As soon as you notice a drop in power, go ahead and charge the battery.
