Default Milwakee 678d smoke coming from power cord

I have a band saw that when i pull the trigger smoke comes from the cord where it connects to the handle. I thought it was the cord so I replaced it with another, It didnt work at all. I put the old cord back in and now it doesnt work at all any ideas?

    Default bandsaw

    Hey MTW,
If you have a volt/ohm meter you can check the cord for live voltage to make sure it is OK..I assume that when you re-installed the old cord you shortened it below the bad spot an then reconnected
There is a chance the switch is bad also but try to eliminate the cord first as a problem and then troubleshoot the rest of the tool..switch,brush's and so on..
[I also assume that the cord you replaced it with was a new one?
A test meter can be purchased at any hardware store or radio shack..
    Hope this is helpful..
