Default Sawzall Motor Runs, but does not Reciprocate

I was using my model 6527 Super Sawzall (774B series) to cut the nails securing wall studs in an outer stucco wall. The blade popped out of the cut a couple of times and banged against the stucco. The motor on the Sawzall now runs, but the blade does not reciprocate. This seems like it must be a common problem and, hopefully, an easy and inexpensive repair.

    Any ideas?

    Default sawzall

    Hey Mike,
It may be as simple as the hex nut coming loose on the axle shaft..[underneath the plastic cap below the spindle shaft] a snap ring coming off the wobble shaft. or your gears have stripped out..
You should be able to tell right away when you disassemble..parts and breakdown avail at eReplacementparts.com : Power Tool Parts and Tool Repair
    hope this is helpful..

    Default Sawzall repair??

I have parts ordered for my sawzall. What is the best procedure for replacing the bushings (bearings) on the reciprocating shaft??
    thanks for reply.

    Default spindle bushing

    Hey doced,
You will have to remove the the retainer and felt seal from the front housing and then you should be able to knock it out with a right sized socket or something that will cover the span of the bushing, that you can hit with a hammer and punch.. [ knock it out from the inside] It is better to press in the replacement if possible but you can just reverse the method and you'll be ok..[ gently tap it in].. be sure and review the specific model and serial # before you order or attempt repair..
    hope this helps..

    Default sawzall repair

    cmoorejack,
I don't think I'll have a problem getting the old bushings out, would it be better to put the upper one in first in order to get the ball into the shaft's socket, or doesn't it matter?
    My parts came today.

    Default reassemble

    Hey Ed,
I just got off the phone with ya and thought I would post for the info...Your model # is the 6511 which has a front and rear spindle bushing [different from the 6527 super sawzall] When you reassemble the tool, the gear mech and the spindle must be assembled outside of the housing and then reinserted into the front housing.[.pad about a palm of grease around the recip part of the gear and shaft..] as far as installing the rear bushing make sure you have the bearing plate supported securely when you remove and replace the bushing as not to damage or brake..

    Angry Me again-Doc ed

Hi Craig, last month we talked about my sawzall and I thought I saved your ph.# in my cell phone but I guess I was wrong.
Anyway, I got the bushings in okay and reassembled it but the gears won't mesh right.
I saw your subsequent post saying the whole thing has to be assembled before putting it in the case. I haven't figured out how to get the ring gear and shaft assembly out (although I got disgusted after a while and quit).
It's now about 8:00 pm Wed. and I'm leaving my office.
Can you call my cell tomorrow or leave a post and I'll check it later in the day (I don't have hours tomorrow).

    Thanks for your help.

    Default sawzall

    Hey Ed,
Patience is a virtue my friend..You may have a problem with a shaft not lining up into a bearing or something out of alignment..it may take a coupla times of assembly to figure out what the issue is...
I may be out of town for the holiday but will try and contact you when I can..
Happy 4th of July and Happy Birthday America...!!!
