Default DC926 xrp 18 volt cordless hammer drill.

. The Dewalt DC926 XRP 18 volt cordless drill that I have. There is smoke coming out of vent holes when there is a load on the drill. The variable speed isn't working. I am having trouble with the trigger not working all the time and also cannot control speed with it. It will usually only work when it is all the way suppressed and then not all the time. I really enjoy this drill with the power it has and have used it alot. I am assuming that the trigger assembly is wore out and would like any advice whether the expense is at all worth it. Also wondering if the motor is shot since it smokes and stinks under a load. Thanks in advance for your help.

It does sound like two different problems with your drill. You will need a new switch, that will fix it so you have variable speed again. The smoking under load would indicate that you also need a new motor.

Let us know how the repair goes!
