I have a Dewalt DW006 24V cordless drill that has two speed settings. It now seems to not want to work on speed setting 2 but will work on setting 1. Any ideas what might be the cause of this?

Most likely the problem is the transmission. It is figure number 16 on the breakdown.

You may also want to double check two other things:

Check the SHIFTER WIRE, which is figure number 41 on the breakdown. Make sure that it is not bent.

Also, check figure number 4 (SHIFTER BUTTON) and make sure that it is not broken.

If the two small parts look OK, and it is the transmission usually the best option is to replace the whole thing. They are tough to take apart, and even tougher to get back together.

It's a bit pricey (around $55) but it does beat buying a new drill.
