Default DeWalt Drill replacing brushes DC988 Type 1

My reliable DeWalt DC988 finally died on me. I ordered new brushes. I removed the old ones.

I'm sure this is a dumb question but how exactly do the new brushes fit in. I am having a problem getting them to set properly. It seems like the slot that slides in to securely seat the brushes is not aligning properly or fully seating. My first time at this so any assistance much appreciated.

This is a great site. Hugh

Fist off you should compare the two brushes to make sure thay're the same size (thkns and width) and if they are, then the holder probably has a build up of residue from the old brushes.so you shud try cleaing it out first using a small flat scewdriver (terminal type) and if that don't work lightly sanding wit a piece of sand paper shud do the trick.
    Good luck
