The reisitor on my Dewalt DW945 drill switch gets hot and the drill slows way down. Any suggestions?

It could be several things. A hot resistor means too much current going through it, which could come from the drill being used rather roughly, like drilling thick steel, etc. Possibly a bad brush or bad bearings on the armature. Some of the 945s are pretty old so it could be worn bearings or internal dirt.
