Default Help! Makita BHP452 Leaf Spring Fell Out!

    Hi Guys,
I was Just starting to service my Ltd Edn White Makita BHP452 as it was full of masonry dust when the small leaf spring fell out. I was cleaning one half of the Grip and it just fell onto the table from somewhere near the gear selector switch i think.

I can't for the life of me find where it went, or what it did, there are no channels or slots that I can see. I even downloaded the parts diagram, it shows the spring as no*20 on the chart but doesn't show exactly where it goes except somewhere near the speed select switch.

I'm using my back up drill for the time being but really want to get this sorted as soon as possible can anyone help at all? what it does, where it goes, how to put back?
    Thanks.

It goes right beneath the gear assembly. There are several grooves in the housing itself, but at the very front bottom, right above the light is a groove that the leaf spring fits into. You have to have the gear assembly in place first. Then you face the "t" part of the leaf spring towards yourself and put the flat side in first. You will push it about half way and you will feel some resistance. Push it all the way in until the "t" part is flush with the inside of the housing. The purpose, I believe, is to keep the gear box from moving around, but I'm not sure. Hope that helps.
