i have a model 725 porter cable band saw and i need a blade. i don't know whether i have a type 1 ,2, or 3. does it matter?

All versions of this tool take the same size blades. We have several blades that will fit this saw, which you can choose from based on your specific application. All the blades listed in the Accessories section of this page (just above this post) will fit your saw. You can also click "See more Band Saw Blades" for some more options.

Generally, that type number only comes into play when you're replacing the internals of a tool. They don't change the size of the blades between revisions.
