Makita Battery/Charger

My good ol' drill batteries won't take a charge. My charger is 12 V. but doesn't register more than 4 volts on the voltage meter. Do I need a new charger or new batteries or both?

It sounds like the charger has died. The DC1410 Charger has been replaced by the DC1804 charger. You can find the DC1804 at the following link...
