    What makes the fuse blow when radio is not in use?

    Most likely the fuse was blown upon plugging in the unit.
    Sometimes a sudden voltage spike will occur upon plugging in the ac cord and blow the fuse, sometimes it happens so quick the unit appears to have been dead all along. The fuse used in this unit is only 1 amp and will tend to blow quite easily. I've seen many fuses blow due to the radio being plugged into an extension cord that was also supplying power to a circular saw or similar, the sudden power drop and spike when the saw is started and stopped is enough to pop the fuse.
