Hi John,
Typically when a gun does not set the nails all of the way it is due to one of three things.
The gun should operate when from between 70 to 120 PSI. If the pressure is too low the gun may not set the nails acceptably. It is best to use the gun at somewhere between 90 and 100 PSI. More than 100 PSI will wear out the gun prematurely.
The driver itself may be broken. If the end of the driver breaks off the gun will not set the nails to the proper depth because the driver is not as long as it used to be. If the driver is broken it will need to be replaced. There is a driver repair kit available. It is part #60097 and is available from http://www.ereplacementparts.com.
The safety linkage could be damaged or out of adjustment. The foot, which acts as the safety, can be adjusted up or down to vary the nail depth. If the linkage is bent or damaged it may change the depth the nail is set to.
I hope this helps with your repair!
