I have a porter cable air compressor model #cpf6025vp. The problem I have is that it will pump up just fine when you start with no pressure in tank. Once there is pressure and it drops the compressor turns back on but can not build up the pressure and the motor sounds funny and eventually blows the breaker. Any advice?

    Hi Matt,

I am not positive what is causing the problem on your compressor but I do have an idea you could try. It is possible that the check valve, item #20, may be not closing which would let air bleed back into the cylinder. The motor may not be able to overcome the pressure caused by the the bleed back air. You could try replacing the check valve and see if that solve the problem. It is part #A19712.

If the check valve isn't the culprit then I would next suspect a problem with the motor itself or even a damaged piston and cylinder.

Let us know what you find.

I had the same problem. After much trial and error, I foud that the plastic device that holds the capacitors on the back of the motor had broken where the bottom bolt attaches it to the motor. This allowed the plastic device to move away from the motor and kept the motor from starting with more torque. Fixed the plastic device (super glue) and all is well.
