    Default Porter Cable pancake compressor

I have a 5 gallon porter cable pancake compressor that starts to run, then stops without filling up to capacity. It sometimes runs for 1-5 seconds without stopping, other times just "false starts" with a quick hum and no chuggin. Any suggestions would be welcome........

Default Porter Cable Pancake compressor overheats

My CF2600 compressor would run and then just cut out. My first diagnosis was a bad pressure cut of switch ( located just next to the regulator) Everything was ok. The real problem was that unit was overheating. There is a thermal fuse inside the module that will cut off the motor power if it gets too hot. Once tripped it takes a while to reset because there is no fan to circulate air. I resolved the issue as follows. First I removed the screws on the side of the the plastic case and spread them open. Next used a tooth brush and the remaining air in the tank to loosen and blow out dust that had collected inside. I then sprayed dry teflon lubricant inside the compressor piston walls. I did this in short bursts, and manually cycled the piston a few times between sprayings. Finally to improve air flow I increased the pitch on the cooling fan blades by genlty bending each blade slightly. A combination of the lubricant and better air flow seems to have resolved the issue.
