DeWALT DC988 Type 1 18V Cordless Hammer Drill

When I press the trigger on my drill the speed varies. Sometimes I'd press the trigger and it wouldn't work at all until I tapped it a little with my hand. What would be the cause of the problem, and the name and code of the part?

Sounds like bad brushes. They may be worn, cracked or just not contacting well.
