What is the best way to remove the threaded shaft that raises and lowers the motor/blade for new motor/housing replacement?

You do not have to remove the shaft to remove the motor.Thank heavens!
You will have to remove the dust cover part # 12 and the guide holder # 80. When you remove the guide holder the shims will drop out so take notice of their location
Tilt the motor to the 45 degree position which will swing part number 10 and remove the bolt, nuts, and spacers from the top of the shaft. Do the same thing from the bottom of the shaft and you will find that you can raise the motor clear off the shaft. I recommend that you have a number of small containers to hold all the parts that you will remove. I used prescription medication bottles.
The motor housing replacement is the easy part of the job.
I just replaced my motor bracket part # 9 so I know what you have to go through. I replaced my belts while I was at it (a difficult job) and I am just about reassembled. You might consider replacing the shims---they might have been part of the problem. When reinstalling the shims, put a very small dab of light grease to hold them in position while installing. I found it impossible to install without the grease because the shims inevitably fell out during the installation.
It will help to have an extra pair of hands when you reinstall the motor because you will be holding the motor on the shaft and will also have to lower the motor on the shaft by rotating the handwheel. Hard to do both.
I responded because I too thought I was going to have to remove the shaft--not necessary!

Thanks for the info about motor replacement. I see from your notes that you replaced the drive belts too.

I am trying to replace my guide belts also. I have disassembled the saw to the point at which I am trying to separate the guide holder from the bracket. I have removed 4 screws and 3 setscrews from the guide holder, and the two pan screws on each side of the bearing. However, the guide holder still will not separate from the bracket. Is there another bolt or screw I must remove?
