ground armature

I took apart my 5150 circular saw expecting to see corrosion. I found both brushes worn with one the springs popped out. Further diagnosis found three of the 16 sections of the armature ground down, I suppose due to the piece of the brush holder or whatever caused the brush holder to break. Could this be a defect? Will this ground section of the armature cause the motor not to run? Is it possible that replacing the brushes is all that is needed?

Replaced the brushes it works fine. Thanks! Don't know what the shimmer on the armiture is all about.
