    Default self-tighening chuck opens in reverse

    I have a Dewalt DC970 with the self-tightening chuck. The chuck opens up when you try and back screws out with it. Does the chuck need replaced or can in be repaired?

    Dewalt DC925 Chuck won't stay locked when reverse mode. It reoleases the bit. Anyone have any answers?

    Hi Kevin: This is one of Dewalt's hair brain chuck designs.The chuck is non serviceable and will have to be replaced. Sorry I couldn't give you better news.Good luck.

    The new dewalt chucks are junk. I have had to replace these with standard keyless chucks for my customers.
