    Default Ridgid Hammer Drill help?

I have a Ridgid 1/2 hammer drill (model R8411503). I purchased this at Home Depot about 6 years ago as part of a set of tools. It came with a Lifetime Warranty but I unfortunately didn't register it or save the receipt. I have the documentation that came with the set but my understanding is that I needed to register the tool at time of purchase in order to use the warranty.

About 6 months ago I was using it to drill through some floor joist and it started to smoke. It still runs but only at low speed and there is a burning smell each time I use it. I really like this drill and would like to get it repaired if the cost is not above buying new set. Does anyone have a suggestion for repair?

    Thanks for your help!

The transmission still appears to be strong. The drill is variable speed there was an electronic burning smell coming from the back end of the drill. Could I possibly have burnt out the motor?

burning smell is the lacquer coatings on the copper windings melting from overheating. replace the can motor.

this would not be covered under warranty as it is not a defect.

Well Motor came on Friday and I was able to replace it in about an hour. Really not that hard at all. I am glad I went the new motor route instead of buying a new drill.
