as long as you did not store the unit with gas in it then dump the leftover gas/oil mix from last year. get new gas.

If you did leave gas in it. Then the carb will need to be rebuilt.

    Default edger

I didnt leave gas in it, never did. it worked perfectly the day before. will try the new gas and see if that works; thanks for the tip. how do you rebuild the carb, is this complicated, or can any one do it? also what would I need, any special tools?

take both sides of the carb apart clean with carb cleaner and replace gaskets and diaphrams. If it is really dirty inside then replace needle as well. gaskets and diraphrams usually do the trick. just put them back the same way they came off.
