removing front cover on machine
what holds the front cover on the machine? I want to see why the beater on the outside does not lock in. Beater keeps falling out.

Did you ever get an answer to your question? I have the same problem.

Remove cover and modify beater retainer
1. Pull the button on the top of the beater handle slightly to the back and upward and it will slip out of the handle. It is only lightly pressed onto the switch level that it sits upon.
2. Remove one screw you will find in the recess where the button was extracted from.
3. Remove front cover. It will pivot forward from the top, and the bottom will unlatch from a stud on the bottom.
4. Look inside and note how the beater release mechanism is assembled.
4. Remove 2 screws that are now exposed.
5. Lift top part of mixer housing upward and forward, and it will come off. (This will cause the beater release mechanism to come apart.)
If the beaters do not stay in, it is most likely because the plastic spring at the end of the locking plate has become weak and/or deformed. There should not be ANY space between the locking plate and the end of track that it slides in. If there is, the spring is weak. The easiest way to fix that is to increase the size of the post that it pushes on by either wrapping it with masking tape, or perhaps some insulation off of electrical wire (if you can find some thick enough).
