start capaciter
my compressor has problems starting up when cold. the motor strains and turns slowly until it pops the breaker. I don't use an extension cord and the outlets I use are usually strong. It does the same thing once full when it tries to re start. It will usually run ok once it gets hot. I was told it is the start capacitor. is that correct and is it something I can fix my self? Chris

Hi Chris,
The problem sounds like it may be caused by a bad check valve to me. It the check valve isn't closing all the way it will allow pressurized air from the tank to bleed back to the cylinder. The pressurized air sitting in the cylinder will cause hard starting issues and will sometimes pop the breaker. I would start by replacing the valve. It is part #160-591.
I hope this helps!
