Default Stripped chuck retaining screw head

I have a Bosch 1194AVSR (0601194639) 1/2" Hammer Drill. My chuck jaws are worn and when I went to remove the chuck, it appears that the retaining screw head must have been stripped away. What advice can you give with the goal being replacing the chuck?

    Hi Al,

Use a drill bit that has a slightly larger diameter than the head of the chuck screw. Drill away the head of the screw. Now you can remove the chuck using an allen wrench in the regular way. Once the chuck is off there should be enough of the screw extending from the spindle to grab it with a pair of vise grips and remove.

    I hope this helps!

    Default Stripped screw head

    Hi there,
Mark is correct in his approach to taking off the chuck. I had to do the same thing the other day with a DeWalt 1/2" cordless drill. Just drill the top of the screw off completely and then take it off as you normally would. Just remember that the screw is a reverse thread. You will be turning it clockwise to take it out. Hope this helps,
    Gene
