    when i put battery in charger it cuts off. several trys before it will hold reset.

    Hello,
    The overload protection or circuit breaker in that charger does have a history of wearing out after quite a while of use. You can replace the circuit board part number 631254-4. That is a easy repair and will take care of your problem.
