    Default dewalt chuck issues

    I have a dewalt dc988 18v hammer drill. I'm pretty sure that my chuck is stripped badly. I was able to remove a stuck drill bit, but i am unable to open the chuck enough to access the left handed screw. The chuck will close all the way but will only barely open. If I could open it enough to even get a bit extention in there I could salvage the tool or remove the chuck. Any ideas?

    Hi Ducky,You will have to cut off the chuck outer case and cut off the ring nut.This will allow the pawls to be pushed out and you will then be able to reach the screw.Hope that helps.
