Pin above trigger

With this nailer there is a little Pin above the trigger. I assume this may be a type of trigger lock. I borrowed this tool and now either the red or black plastic cover for the end of this pin is missing. I believe it was red and on the left side. Is this pin a safety lock and is there a replacement cover for the end of this pin?

It looks as if the part in question is part of the trigger. By looking at it, it has the black cover on the side that is connected to the pin.
