My girlfriend has a good working Ryobi 700r.
I recently found a 790r (same cc engine, but has a straight shaft) trimmer sitting at a curb with a "free"sign on it. Engine probably doesn't work, but I figured I could use it for spare parts for her 700r.
Then I thought why not put the straight shaft on her curved Ryobi?
Is this doable, and is it as easy as unbolting the housings and swapping them?
I've rebuilt the carb on her 700r, and I'm a decent backyard mechanic, but I admit I've never messed with the shaft/gear part of these trimmers, so any help is appreciated.
