How do you remove the bevel spiral gear?

I have the same question .... I am wondering about it being a press fit, but a flat, spline or key would make more sense but is not shown in drawing. My approach will be to put the head in the freezer, then clamp gear in a vise and then warm the gear with a small torch and tap the end of the shaft with a copper hammer.

    Hello sailandoar,

You are correct, it is pressed on to the shaft. I think your idea would work just fine. You could also take it to a tool repair shop, and for a minimal price the should be able to press the old one off and press the new one on in no time at all. Hopefully the pinion on the end of the armature is not worn.
