starter pawl assembly

How do i get the old stater pawl off ??? its on a bolt, but the the whole thing spins freely.

To get the starter prawl off, take the appropriate sized socket and put it on an impact wrench. This will eliminate the need to use a piston stop or packing the cylinder with rope (which can cause major damage).
