Porter Cable cordless drill Model 884, type 1

I have a Porter Cable cordless drill Model 884, type 1. My drill was left out in the rain. I brought it in and let it dry out for a week. It now runs fine in both directions. The problem is that when I let off the trigger the brake does not opperate and I have to wait for the thing to stop on own. I've had it apart and can not find the brake. Is it electrical or mechanical?
What can I do to fix it?
