Makita air compressor mac5200
Compressor with air gun attached drops from 125 PSI to 40 PSI. Could the cause be the Regulator or the Pressure Switch?

rgy678,
To trouble shoot the compressor we will need a little more information."Compressor with air gun attached drops from 125 PSI to 40 PSI" are you saying the compressor only pumps up to 125 psi and won't turn on again until it hits 40 psi ?

I should've been more clear; w/o air hose attached to the compressor, the pressure will stay at 125 PSI. Attaching the hose, the pressure drops off immediately to 40 PSI.

hi rgy678,
The mac5200 has two pressure read outs. One gives tank pressure and the second gives output working pressure. Is it the second one (working pressure)that shows 125 psi without the hose connected but drops to 40 psi when you connect the hose?If this is the case then the spool valve is sized in the regulator body. The pressure regulator Regulator Part Number: 410029-E needs to be replaced.Hope that helps.Good luck.
