Hi jem,
The upper chamber on that compressor is separated by a very thin Valve Seat To Head Gasket Part Number: 211001-E.If the center part of the gasket blows out, the compressor head will keep blowing air but at the first sign of resistance( air building up in the tank) air pressure will bleed into intake chamber until it equalizes pressure and no more air will flow into the tank.Take the head bolts off and remove the head and inspect the gasket. If it is broken and you replace it be sure to re torque the head bolts after a couple of hours of use to prevent it from blowing out again.Hope that helps.Good luck.
