    Default felt seal #900162004

I recently bought a reconditioned ryobi one 18v chain saw to match my other ryobi stuff. I was having trougle getting the chain on it and took off a piece of felt between the sprocket and bar as I had never seen anything like thatin 40 yrs of using saws, thinking it was for packing maybe. Well I called ryobi about it, and they told me it was supposed to be there, but could not tell me what it did. I told them I took it off, and they said I could do that, but it was supposed to be left on. Could you tell me what it does, and should I put it back on? Thanks, Paul Munger

    Hi pampampa,
I could be wrong but I thought ryobi used that felt seal around the bar oil feed hole to control the rate oil feed to the chain.when you push the oil fill cap it puts a slight amount of pressure in the tank pushing oil to the chain and bar. This felt seal gets saturated with oil and evenly distributes oil on the chain.Hope that helps.Good luck.
