    Default milwaukee drill

Hey guys, a buddy just gave me a milwaukee magnum drill 1/2". It seems to smoke and not power smoothly. I'd love to fix this and i'm going to start with replacing the brushes. I'd really appreciate any tips on diagnosing problems with these tools. Thanks very much.

    Default smell

    Hey duburban,
try smelling the switch first..if it stinks like the dickens you may have to just replace that..check your other components for obvious signs of damages [black or burnt windings] if it turns out to be the switch make you u match up the serial #s to order the right one as it may be only available in a kit form..!
    hope this is helpful..

Thank you for the reply. I'm new to this so my eye for "damage" is untrained. I'll post some photos if i can. Thanks.

I can't post pics... Can someone point me to pics of damaged coils, actuators and fields?

I read where the Milwaukee Magnum has replacement brushes in the handle. It'd be nice if all manufacturers did that.
