    Default DewWalt dc925 clutch problem in 2nd & 3rd gear

    I have a DeWalt cordless hammer drill DC925. When I use it in 1st gear everything work fine but in the drill and hammer mod in 2nd and 3rd the clutch will become ingaged and will stop the drill from drilling

    It could be a couple of things. First, those three speed DC925 gearboxes have always been a little temperamental when it comes to switching gears. Sometimes the gearboxes can get stuck between gears and act like things are stripped even though they may not be. I try to move the gear selector into place by hand, then advance the drill a little by lightly pulling the trigger switch while wiggling the gear selector. You can hear the drill lock in when the gears link up. We see a lot of "stripped" Dewalt drills come in for repair when they're actually just between gears.

    Second, gearboxes can actually strip out sometimes and you might need a new one after all. If tinkering with the gear selector doesn't work, you will want to consider replacing the gearbox. Here's a link to the DC925 gearbox:
