Unhappy Makita LS1013 KACHUNK!!! then dead...

    Hello forum,

I own a Makita LS1013 sliding compound MS. I am an experienced carpenter. I was getting ready to install some Plexiglass (the kind you can cut with wood saws) in some windows I made, when I noticed one of the panes of Plexi was a little to long to fit into the window. Seeing that I had cut all the Plexi on my table saw (rips and cross cuts), I thought I would trim the piece on my LS1013, which I had set up to cut the moldings for the windows.
Anyway, as I was making the cut on the Plexi, I lowered the blade slowly into the Plexi and BANG!!! there was a loud chunk sound, the power went out on the saw and the blade was spinning freely until it slowed and stopped on its own.
I checked the power on the extension cord with another too (in case a breaker blew on the outlet), and then plugged the LS1013 back in, no power, DEAD.
So my question is what could have happened inside the LS1013 to render it dead...

Default more info for what its worth...

I am guessing the blade jammed on the plexi, though strangely the plexi was not shattered or damaged at all, I am guessing it jammed and broke something inside the saws motor housing. Whatever happened the saw is now getting no power at all.

hello! if power is going in and out of the switch, check armature and field for damage and especially the field leads to the brush holders that looks like a spring surrounding the brush holder are very delicate to heat and shock, if they look good then the last issue would be the controller assembly located outside the motor casing. good luck!
