Please help with brush replacement on DW972 Type 3
I'm sure I need new brushes, but I don't see how to remove the old ones. I can't remove them without removing the housing they set in and it is riveted in. Can anyone out there help? Thanks!!!

removing brush's
Hey Dewey,
You do have to remove the housing..[separate the screw side] lift up the motor.. remove the wire connection one at a time or just make sure you note the + and the - markings..then you can use a screwdriver tip to pry or lever out the brush assy..you will see how the replacements just snap in..! once you are inside the drill and your old brush's don't look so bad..you may have to just replace the motor.. not sure what you mean about the rivet thing.. but you do have to be careful that everything go's back together correctly..
hope this helps...

removing brushes
Thanks cmoorejack,
I've had the thing apart and I just don't see how to remove the brushes because the housing they set in is riveted to the motor. It looks to me like I need to remove the housing to remove the brushes.
I'm quite sure its a brush problem because I'm getting a lot of sparks on one side when I let off on the trigger. It stoped dead once and when I moved the brushes a little it started working again.I guess I'll wait until my new brushes come in and that might answer my question. If it doesn't I'll be back on the forum for help. Thanks again!!!
