Makita 9227C rotary buffer

I have a used Makita Rotary Polisher.
Speed control does not seem to be responding consistantly.
Full rpms work but the lower rpm, are inconsistant, they work and then they don't work.
I"m am going to toss in a new set of brushes, and a new cord and cord protector, but I am not sure what controls the variable speed?
Any body have experience with these buffers?

Hi, you have most likely have a bad controller #681801-1 and/or Magnet sleeve # 688110-9. Check the Magnet sleeve first and make sure it tight on the shaft.This is generally what goes wrong with the Makita polishers when they start acting like that. If you replace the controller also replace the magnet sleeve also.Hope this helps.Good luck.
