Dewalt dw515 trigger switch
Apparently my first post never made it, so, I'll try again.
I got a new switch for my DW515, Type I. The old switch is no longer available. The replacement switch is apparently an upgrade. Problem is it is not wired the same as the old switch (it is not a wire for wire change.)
Everything is the same as far as the power in, and reversing wires. Where things go wrong are with what I beleive are the connections to the field.
If I change all the wires what I'm left with is two wires identified as P1 and P3 that go into the side of the old switch. The new switch has only one hole marked M1 in that place. There is a hole on both switches marked M1 on the bottom. There is also a jumper that came with the new switch that is somehow supposed to be use for M1 to go to the field. The instructions that came with the new switch are useless. All they say is to connect M1 to the field. That doesn't address which M1 hole to plug which end into or where to connect the other end....and what to do with the original M1 wire. Then it doesn't say what to do with the P1 and P3 wires.
A simple wiring schematic would have done the trick rather than text instructions. There is a schematic on the switch, but, that doesn't work for the wires that I have to work with.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. It's a $50 switch for a $100 drill and I really don't want to trash it all. There has got to be some simple info out here somewhere.
Thanks

Hi, the dewalt 515 had a goofy switch kit. As you said they give you a little faded piece of paper that tells you nothing.Your best bet is to contact Dewalt tech support and have a service tech walk you through where every thing goes.It seem to me that that dewalt had a couple of different switch kits depending on the type number.I think one kit gave you and new brush holder set up with the kit. I have a little note book that I keep these odd ball wiring updates in and might have it if you can give me the switch kit number you have and the type number on the tool.

Took awhile for me to get back. Sorry, 'tis the season.
The switch kit number is 429990-00. This is a type I drill.
According to the schematics on the sides of the switches, my p1 and p3 (a variable resistor) are gone on the new switch. The new switch shows the variable resistance in the 1 to M1 circuit hooked to a DP switch....one circuit being straight thru and the other thru the new "electronics" (variable resistance.) Both circuits merge at each end.
Unfortunately I still don't know about the old P1 and P3 wires.

Do you have the electronic module? The only notes i have on this tool is: "for type 1 units only-Use the 176830-19 switch for units that are missing the electronic module,or if still in place,is disconnected." I would call Dewalt tech support direct at 1-800-433-9258 and have them walk you through where each of the wires in question should go.Sorry I couldn't be more help.good luck.

Hello troyrech,
This is definitely a problem child. My suggestion is to do what Tinkerdave has suggested.

Before I ordered the replacement switch (new part number), I was hoping to hear if he resolved the wiring issues. Next step - going to call Dewalt Tech Support. If it doesn't work, then I have a 1/2" hammer drill sitting broken in my shop.
