Default How do I oil the oiler pad?

I am replacing an oiler and bearing on a Porter Cable 352VS belt sander. The oiler (part number 850410) came with no instructions. It is dry. What weight and how much oil do I soak it with? How does the oil get from the oiler pad to the bearing? I don't see how it can do anything for lubrication. I searched 'oiler' and only found information on a chainsaw oiler.

Hi,If I remember right that model had a number of problems with that bearing. Its a rather small bearing that takes a high lateral load. The oiler your talking about was used to help extend the life of the bearing by allowing a small amount of oil to lubricate the bearing.Just use a 10W none detergent oil like 3 in 1 oil and added enough for it to get wet and you should be fine. You cant really over oil it.Hope that helps.

    Default Thank you Tinkerdave

I'll use the 3 in 1 as you advise. I'm always going to wonder just how the oil migrates out of the pad to the bearing. I just realized I should have asked about the bearing lubrication too. Should I pack it with a high temp grease?

I have virtually zero experiance in posting messages in forums. What is the proper etiquette to thank a person? Should I use 'reply with quote' or 'reply to thread'?

You could use a little bit of grease.
