Default 5 stars Questions about Bosch 11236VS

I just acquired a second one of these and it seems to have slightly more "gear" noise than the first one. The motor brushes are worn much less than 50%. So, if they haven't been replaced, this drill should have a good bit of life left in it. I noticed an excessive amount of grease at the rear of the chuck and in the area of the drill/hammer selector knob. After cleaning everything externally, I removed the rear handle/cover and the bearing flange so that I could check the grease inside the drill. It looked sort of like the greasy residue that I've sometimes seen in drains - Dark and almost soupy. Is this normal? If not, what does the color/consistency indicate?

What is the proper grease to use in these drills? Should it be packed full or not?

Other than improper lubrication, what is the most likely cause of the additional noise I am hearing? (I understand that there are dozens of parts but what are the most common issues?)

I have tested the drill and it seems to function normally. I did not run it for more than about five minutes so I don't know if the grease on the exterior came from sloppy lubing of the bits or if it is leaking through the shaft or knob seals. Are such leaks a common problem?

    Thanks,

    Bill

    Default grease

    Hey ACI,
Grease will typically break down over time and use..it then loses its ability to lubricate..the correct grease for this tool is part# 1-615-430-005..avail at ereplacementparts.com
it is a pretty purple grease that looks good enough to eat..! you will want to fill gear compartment about half full..[two tube should be enough]
The noise may be from some gear wear or just that you need some lube..!
you are OK if you have a little gear wear..no more then 10% or you may end up with some problems with heavy use..
    Hope this helps...
