When this tool works, it's fine. God forbid that the chuck should fail as it did on mine. I've removed chucks on drills for thirty years and never encountered one I couldn't replace before this one. The chuck that came with the drill literally fell apart in my hands when I went to change a bit. This should never happen. Even after investigating how to replace it on the internet, it seems impossible to do. Further, about twelve years ago, I bought two 14.4 dewalt drills and they still work fine--slightly different model. The batteries lasted a long long time while being used commercialy. I don't know what happened, but I've had bad luck with the new batteries that came with this drill. In one case, one battery wouldn't hold a charge at all, and the other doesn't last very long. I have four dewalt battery drills along with a number of other dewalt tool, and I'm thinking about completely switching over to another brand.

MY KEYLESS CHUCK FELL APART TOO. Dewalt should probably fix all the chucks free of charge.

I've had the same experience with my DeWalt batteries. I bought my first 14.4V drill when it came on the market, maybe late 80s or early 90s. One battery lasted until about 2000, the other about four years longer. I bought this same model drill at that time thinking I would have two new batteries to use with either drill. But neither has ever held a charge for more than 3 or 4 days. When idle. A normal day of D.I.Y. work will have one or the other on the charger at all times. Now the speed control failed, which is what brought me to this site. I guess when any product becomes a commodity item profit comes before quality!
