    Default DeWalt DW959

I am trying to replace the brushes on my 18V Dewalt drill DW959. I bought the brush set for that drill but, after disassembling the drill and removing the motor, I can't figure out how to replace the brushes. There does not seem to be a way of getting to the old brushes. How do I do that? Are there instructions somewhere?

    Hi jrosen,

On your particular drill the only way into the motor is to try and bend the motor housing open enough so you can pull the cap and the brushes out. The motor in your drill has the cap installed and then the edge of the motor housing is peened over to hold the cap in place. All other manufactures consider this type of motor unserviceable but DeWalt offers the brushes for their "sealed" motors. If you are careful you should be able to bend the housing back enough to remove the cap which will expose the brushes. The hard part will be bending the housing back to properly retain the cap again.

Let us know how the repair goes.
